Role: Marketing & Community Specialist
Location: Remote (Visa support offered if interested in working in Shanghai)
Compensation: From ~20,000 RMB / $2800 USD / 2400 EUR month base (depending on experience) + performance-based bonus tied to growth
Helio Additive is a 3D-printing software startup with strong partnerships with Polymaker and Bambu Lab. Our product, Dragon, is a tool that predicts how a print will behave and automatically adjusts the printing settings so you can print faster, stronger, and with fewer errors.
We work with everyone from hobbyists using desktop printers to industrial users running large-format and pellet printers. We’re still small, our user base is growing fast, and there’s a huge amount of room to shape how we tell our story and engage our community.
This is our first marketing hire.
There’s no legacy marketing team, no big agency, and not much in the way of a playbook yet. You’ll help create it.
We’re looking for someone early in their career, with strong potential, who wants to grow into a bigger role over time. You should enjoy both:
- Thinking: shaping a simple strategy and deciding what’s worth doing
- Doing: actually running the campaigns, posting in the communities, writing the copy, checking the numbers
If you already hang out in 3D printing / maker communities and love figuring out what makes people tick, this is probably your happy place.
- Work with the founders to define a clear marketing and community focus for the next 6–12 months
- Help sharpen our positioning and messaging for different types of users (makers, prosumers, industrial users)
- Set up lightweight tools and processes so we can see what’s working (analytics, tags, simple reporting)
- Build and own our presence in relevant community channels (e.g. Discord, WeChat groups, Reddit, niche forums)
- Talk directly with users: answer questions, collect feedback, and spot potential champions
- Experiment with things like AMAs, small challenges, beta groups, and office hours to deepen engagement
- Help plan and execute launches for new features, integrations, and partnerships
- Create practical content: how-to posts, short guides, case studies, benchmarks, release notes, and simple videos if you’re comfortable
- Coordinate with the product and support teams to turn user success stories into shareable content
- Use product analytics and campaign metrics to understand which users are engaging, converting, and sticking around
- Track and report on a small set of key metrics (e.g. signups, activation, free→paid conversion, community activity)
- Run simple experiments (A/B tests, channel tests, message tests) and share what you learn with the team
- Have ~1–4 years of experience in marketing, growth, or community roles (title could have been Marketing Specialist, Community Manager, Growth Marketer, etc.)
- Are deeply familiar with 3D printing – ideally an active member of communities around Bambu, OrcaSlicer, Prusa, Voron, or similar
- Have hands-on community-building experience: maybe you’ve run a Discord server, a forum, a Telegram/WeChat group, or a niche online community
- Are comfortable with data: you don’t need to be a data scientist, but you’re happy looking at dashboards, spreadsheets, or analytics tools to guide decisions
- Can write clearly and concisely, and adjust tone for technical users vs. broader audiences
- Enjoy startup-style work: ambiguity, taking ownership, and figuring things out as you go
- Like the idea of growing with the role – taking on more responsibility as you prove what you can do
- Experience in hardware, 3D printing, or manufacturing-related products
- Experience marketing to both individual makers and more professional / industrial users
- Familiarity with Asian online communities or messaging platforms (e.g. WeChat, Rednote); knowledge of Mandarin is a plus but absolutely not required
- Any examples of side projects, community initiatives, or unconventional paths that show you can make things happen
- We have a clear, simple narrative about who Helio is for and why it matters
- A small but lively community is active across 1–3 key channels (e.g. Discord, Reddit, WeChat / forums), and we’re getting regular product feedback from them
- We have a basic but reliable view of our marketing and community metrics, and we’re making decisions based on them
- We’re running regular launches and experiments that move the needle on signups, activation, and conversion
- Your work is clearly visible in our user growth and engagement, and your responsibilities (and bonus potential) grow with that impact
- Base salary starting from ~20,000 RMB / $2800 USD / 2400 EUR/ month (depending on experience)
- Performance-based bonus with strong upside as we grow user numbers and improve conversion. Salary
- Fully remote role with flexible hours
- Direct access to the founders and product team, and a chance to shape how marketing and community are done from the ground up
- Visa support if relocating to Shanghai (optional)
- If located in Shanghai you will have access to unlimited 3d printing filament/pellets and a large number of printers at our Changshu office
- Close co-operation and ability to make a name for yourself with our key partners including Polymaker, Bambu Lab, and Adaxis
